The Maori motif is based on the famous Maori proverb:
“He taonga rongonui, te aroha ki te tangata”
“Goodwill towards others is a precious gift”

The motif design was based upon the following principles:
· A koru design that was symbolic of Maori artform
· A koru design that depicted parents, children and teachers - All intertwined together in some way
· A motif that was uncomplicated and could easily be carved as a manaia if required and worn as a taonga
· A design that could incorporate a Maori proverb that was relevant to the work of the RTLB

The Maori motif shows two smaller figures (children) being embraced by two larger figures (adults)
The adults represent teachers and parents who are embracing, teaching and nurturing the children
This is done under the umbrella of the RTLB’s guidance (Note the umbrella shape)
The motif was purposely heart-shaped – Children are at the heart of the RTLB initiative

“Aroha Ki Nga Tamariki” – “Love to all children”

About our Association
The New Zealand Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour Association (NZRTLBA) is the professional body which represents RTLB's in their interface with the Ministry of Education, unions and other National Bodies.

The NZRTLBA deals with the issues and concerns of RTLB's in the Aotearoa/New Zealand school system. Our first aim is to support our RTLBA members who are working to meet the needs of students, their teachers and parents/caregivers in educational establishments.

We are also mandated to provide liaison with the Ministry of Education, unions, and the New Zealand School Trustees’ Association on the interpretation of national guidelines for the successful operation of Resource Teachers: Learning and Behaviour
